At the recent AGM, owners approved a new by-law requiring all electric bikes, scooters, and skateboards to be registered with the Owners Corporation. This decision follows growing safety concerns and official warnings from Fire and Rescue NSW regarding the fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries commonly used in these devices.
These batteries can overheat, catch fire rapidly, and are difficult to extinguish—especially when charging in enclosed or combustible areas such as carparks and corridors. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries pose a serious threat to residents, property, and emergency access.
In response, and to align with best practices for fire safety, storage and charging of these devices on common property is now strictly regulated under the new by-law. The goal is to minimise risk and ensure safe use of personal mobility devices within The Pines.
Effective immediately:
-
Electric bikes may no longer be stored in the B1 garage parking area.
-
All batteries must be removed and charged safely following manufacturer and fire safety guidelines.
-
Registration is mandatory for all e-bikes, scooters, and skateboards.
