People don’t trust contact-tracing apps, surprising no one

In a new ExpressVPN survey in the U.S.:

  • 75% of respondents said they believe contact-tracing apps violate a person’s privacy
  • 77% are convinced they are at risk of mass surveillance as a result of the increase in contact-tracing apps

But despite the loss of privacy via contact-tracing apps, 59% of those surveyed indicated a willingness to sacrifice some of their privacy for the sake of public health.

What’s significant is that 33% of survey respondents rated streaming platforms as the most important digital service, ahead of others like social media and video conferencing.

With versions of Google and Apple’s new contact-tracing tool now being released in various forms around the world, we will soon find out what effects these apps will have on our privacy and security.
