No Chemical Spraying in Pines Veggie Garden

Residents, Ken & Margaret, recently asked about chemical spraying in the herb garden.

We do not use any herbicides or pesticides on the veggie garden. At all!

The white powder you might have observed is diatemacious earth which is ground up seashells and is a deterrent for caterpillars. It can simply be washed off leaves as one would before preparing any vegetables.

We also use fake butterflies to deter the cabbage moths from laying their eggs, but these seem to disappear when we have visits from residents’ small grandchildren 🤗.

The lucern hay mulch is there to stop the snails.

Since the produce is available for anyone to pick, We are very conscious of the risk in using chemicals of any sort.

Thanks for the question Ken & Margaret.  If there’s anything else you might suggest, I would be very interested. Stay well, you two … xxPam
