LIFT UPDATE: Thursday 2 December

The bad news is that the lift will remain out of action for most, if not all of next week.

The good news is that we don’t have to hire a crane to lower the lift motor from the roof down to the ground to be repaired. The work can be done on site.

The problem lies in the gearbox bearings, which have to be replaced. With a lift motor the size of ours, this is a complex task and requires expert teams to be assembled.

Accordingly, next Tuesday 7 December, a team from Hamilton’s (lift maintenance) will hoist the lift cabin into position on the 13th floor from the 3rd floor where it has been stuck for the past two days. On Wednesday 8 December, specialists Industrial Electric will replace the bearings. Industrial Electric are hopeful that this task will take two to three days, but we’ll know more on Wednesday when they break down the gearbox.

Please plan your week accordingly, and take care on the fire stairs while the lift is out. Don’t forget your keys!

On a positive note, we will come out of this with a refurbished lift gearbox, which should hold us in good stead through 2022. The full refurbishment/replacement of our lift is scheduled to take place following the completion of the Major Works next year.
